25 Years Of Musical Excellence
It is hard to believe that Llandeilo’s much-loved annual music festival, in what must undoubtedly be one of Wales’s most attractive towns, will this year be celebrating its 25th year. From comparatively modest beginnings the event has steadily raised the town’s musical profile, establishing it, evermore securely, on the national musical scene while it continues to attract singers and instrumentalists of international caliber.
Since its inception the Festival has become renowned for critically acclaimed instrumental recitals. It has featured memorable chamber music performance of some of the greatest works in the repertoire. It is synonymous with the highest standards of singing, and it has constantly provided a platform for the new generation of young Welsh mixed and children’s choirs. Over the last 25yrs we have produced open air operas and Jazz events as well as a very successful school’s Outreach project. Our “artistic or Creative Vision” from the outset was to redress, what we saw as an increasing imbalance in musical provision by establishing Llandeilo and the surrounding community as a mecca for performances of an increasingly neglected part of the great British and European musical tradition and culture.
We had already been working on ideas for our 25th year before Gerald’s health deteriorated and of course his passing this February. We have put together a varied and interesting programme for 2025 (12th – 19th July) which I’m sure you’ll approve of, and a brochure will be with you shortly. Before that, however, I need to tell you of a very special ‘Friends Evening’ that will also serve as a ‘Festival Launch’ which we believe, with your help, will improve audience attendance as well as increase membership. If you would like to invite a friend to become a ‘Friends of the Festival’, or if anyone would like to enrol on the evening of the concert we would be pleased to arrange a £5 reduction on their non-member concert ticket.
