Llandeilo Swing Bridge

Llandeilo Swing Bridge swimming poolWe are absolutely thrilled to share that Llandeilo Swing Bridge has been granted official Bathing Water Designation from 2026.

This means:

  • Regular water quality monitoring
  • A legal commitment to improving the river
  • Better protection for people, wildlife and the environment

This is only the second river site in Wales to receive this status, following The Warren on the River Wye in 2024.

This achievement has been driven by the community. From the first public meeting in 2023 organised by the amazing Jude Western , to gathering bather data and responding to the consultation, and the formation of Nofwyr Afon Tywi / River Tywi Swimmers . But this simply wouldn’t have happened without the incredible support of volunteers and local residents young and old.

People have been swimming at the Swing Bridge for over 100 years — and now it has the recognition and protection it deserves.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen – it’s wonderful what a community can do together.Thank you also for the all the help and advice from Surfers Against Sewage Royal Life Saving Society UK – RLSS UK , @friends of the river Wye and many more people and organisations.

Improving the health of the River Tywi is a long-term effort, and there are lots of ways to get involved. If you’d like to help, groups like Achub Y Tywi and West Wales Rivers Trust are doing amazing work. Join in with their project.
